Murphy has had the bill on his desk since March 19. I just spoke to the offices of two sponsoring NJ Assembly people, and they have heard NOTHING from Murphy’s office.
NJ Governor Murphy reneged on his deal to extend the due date for 2019 NJ tax returns and their associated payments! As it is so close to the due date, I am urging everyone, who believed, with good reason, that Governor Murphy would afford us a reasonable extension as PA, NY and IRS has, to get me their tax information immediately.
The NJ due date is still April 15th. This means that late filing and late payment penalties and interest apply if you don’t file then. So this is business as usual.
For clients who are waiting to send me their 2019 tax documents believing, as we all did, that Murphy would extend the dates, you need to get me your information as soon as possible, to see if you have a balance due.
Clients who already have had their taxes prepared, and had a NJ balance due, and were hoping to pay that beyond April 15th, can’t do that. Those NJ taxes must be paid by April 15th. If you are a client of mine in this situation, call me to discuss.
At a minimum we need to file a NJ extension for you by April 15th and pay any tax due by the same date.
Here is the link to the NJ Division of Taxation Website clearly showing April 15th is still the due date.
