Your income tax data is the ultimate prize for an identity thief.

I urge everyone to call your CPA / Tax Preparer immediately and inquire where your tax data is stored. If you prepare your own taxes, call your software company and ask if your data is stored in the cloud. If they tell you that their tax systems are “online” and that your data is keyed in and stored in the “cloud”, immediately request that your data, for all tax years they prepared, be removed from that highly insecure internet storage location.
There is no such thing as a secure online storage location. If they refuse to change their tax software to using local (in office) data storage, I urge you to switch preparers immediately.
They may try to persuade you that your data is stored in an online secure, protected or encrypted location, but there is no 100% secure online storage solution.
