Where does your CPA / Tax Preparer store your personal financial data?

We all hear constantly of “cloud based” servers being hacked and millions of identities being stolen.
We will agree that having your personal tax data stored in the cloud is a major mistake and given the choice, you would never allow it to be stored there.
We all know there is no such thing as a fully secure online storage location.
Would you be shocked to learn that most CPAs store your tax data in the cloud and not on secure servers in their office?
I urge everyone to call your CPA / Tax Preparer immediately and inquire where your tax data is stored. If they tell you that their tax systems are “online” and that your data is keyed in and stored in the “cloud”, immediately request that your data be removed from that internet storage location. There is no such thing as a secure online storage location. If they refuse to change their tax software to using local (in office) data storage, I urge you to switch preparers immediately.
They may try to persuade you that your data is stored in an online secure, protected or encrypted location, but there is no 100% secure online storage solution.
